Joe McHugh

Biography:
Joseph P. McHugh was a legendary American ring announcer, born on April 30, 1904, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He began his career in vaudeville as a comedian and emcee before becoming a professional boxing and wrestling announcer in 1929. Over more than five decades, he announced bouts featuring legends like Muhammad Ali, Rocky Marciano, and Larry Holmes, gaining national recognition in the 1970s and 1980s through his appearances on WWWF and WWF television programs recorded in Allentown. Known for his charismatic style and signature catchphrase, “And my name is Joooooooooe McHugh!”, he remained active until his death on January 31, 1993. He was also a show promoter, nightclub owner, and World War II veteran.
